Surface Chemistry for the in-growth control of the electronic properties of SWCNTs

Single Walled Carbon Nanotubes (SWCNTs) are considered as promising candidates for future electronics. However, these perspectives are seriously hampered by the concerns associated with the formation of both semiconducting/metallic Nanotubes for most of the synthetic protocols developed so far. We have developed a new CVD-related approach for the synthesis of SWCNTs , using self-assembled monolayers of Metallic complexes as pre-catalysts. We showed that, as a function of the metallic complex self-assembled on the surface, mostly metallic or mostly semiconducting SWCNTs are obtained at will, without any kind of sorting procedure. .
