Calixarenes scaffolds for the synthesis of segments of Zig-Zag carbon nanotubes

Single Walled Carbon Nanotubes (SWCNTs) are considered as promising candidates for future electronics. However, these perspectives are seriously hampered by the concerns associated with the formation of both semiconducting/metallic Nanotubes for most of the synthetic protocols developed so far. Some very efficient sorting procedures are allowing for the production of pure semiconducting or metallic ones, but the associated costs Are high, and the yield of the purifications rather low. We’re currently developing synthetic approaches towards the synthesis of diameter-controled zig-zag type SWCNTs using organic chemistry. Using calixarenes as templates, we obtained the first short segments of zig-zag carbon nanotubes with perfectly controled diameters.
